Levelling a lawn

To level a lawn it is usually best to fill in the holes rather than try to squash down the humps. Any sort of compacting of the lawn will not help the soil. It will squash soil particles together and reduce the root depth of the grass.

Regular top dressing will help to keep a lawn level and will keep the soil fresh.
